R12 refrigerants (R12, Freon 12, F-12, CFC-12, difluorodifluoromethane, Freon 12, Dichlorodifluoromethane), chemical formula CCl2F2, are used in refrigerators, freezers, water dispensers, automobile air conditioners, commercial air conditioners, cold storage, commercial refrigeration, freezing condensation units and other refrigeration equipment. It can also be used as aerosol propellants, physical foaming agents, medical disinfectants, insecticide propellants, etc. Since R12 belongs to the CFC class (the first batch of restricted ODS substances, Class I Ozone-deploying Substances), which is harmful to the ozone layer and has a greenhouse effect, in developed and some developing countries, the initial installation of new air conditioners and refrigeration equipment or the re-addition of old equipment has been stopped; China stopped the production of R12 refrigerant and the initial installation of new refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment in 2007.
