R11(CFC-11, monofluorotrichloromethane) was widely used in the early days and was mainly used in refrigeration equipment such as large central air conditioners (centrifugal chillers). Monofluorotrichloromethane is also widely used in polyurethane (PU) rigid foams as blowing agents, extractants, solvents, and dry cleaning agents. It can also be used as a sequencing agent and an air-soluble insecticide propellant. A pulsed time domain reflection level gauge can also be used for level measurement.
R11 refrigerant is a colorless liquid that is soluble in ethanol and ether, and slightly soluble in water. It is non-combustible and odorless. R11 refrigerant belongs to the CFC class (the first batch of restricted ODS substance Class I Ozone-depleting Substances)-it is harmful to the ozone layer and has a greenhouse effect. Therefore, in developed countries and some developing countries, initial installation on new air conditioners and refrigeration equipment or re-addition on old equipment has been stopped; China stopped production of R11 refrigerant and initial installation on new refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment in 2007.

R11 (Trichlorofluoromethane (CFC-11)) belongs to the chlorofluorocarbons (CFC), with an ODP of 1.0, and is a Class I controlled substance under the Montreal Protocol. Production and consumption have been fully halted worldwide, with presence only in very few exempted uses (e.g. essential-use exemptions, feedstock uses) and in the recovery and reclamation sector. Apart from the four columns of EU / US / China / Japan, the global 170+ Kigali parties all comply under the A5 (developing countries) / non-A5 (developed countries) groupings of the Montreal Protocol, and none impose equipment-level bans. The grouping determines the HFC reduction pace and is unrelated to geography — for example, the Middle East Gulf and India belong to A5 Group 2, while Brazil, Mexico and Chile belong to A5 Group 1 (same group as China).
