Overview
Difluoroethanol, whose chemical name is 2,2-difluoroethanol, is an important aliphatic fluorine-containing intermediate. Due to the special structure of difluoromethyl group, its chemical properties are different from other alcohols and can participate in a variety of organic synthesis reactions, especially in fluorinated pesticides, medicines, fluoropolymers and cleaning agents.
The acidity is equivalent to phenol. It is soluble in water, acid, ethanol, ether and other solvents and is toxic. Stable nature.
Application in pesticides
Difluoroethanol is mainly used in pesticides to synthesize penoxsulam. Penoxsulam is a broad-spectrum herbicide developed by Dow Agro Company of the United States and is mainly used for weeding rice. It can effectively control barnyardgrass, rhododendron and annual Cyperaceae weeds, and is effective on many broad-leaved weeds, such as marsh heterostenosia, carp intestines, sesbania, bamboo flower, duck tongue grass, etc. At the same time, it can also control bensulfuron-methyl-resistant weeds in rice fields. The validity period is up to 30-60 days. One application can basically control the harm of weeds throughout the season. It is currently the most extensive herbicide used in rice fields.
Application in medicine
Difluoroethanol is used in medicine to build difluoroethoxy groups. The resulting drugs can be used as mPGE synthase inhibitors, PDE-4 inhibitors, retinoids x receptor modulators, muscarinic receptors, and antibiotics. Microsomal prostaglandin E(mPGE) is a type of prostaglandin, and mPGE synthase inhibitors can be used to treat pain and inflammation.
Application in fluoropolymers
Due to their unique properties, fluoropolymers are widely used in aerospace, microelectronic engineering, chemical and automotive industries, optics, textile industries, and biomedical materials. Introducing difluoroethoxy groups by reaction with difluoroethanol is one of the important methods. Cellulose materials are the most abundant renewable resources in nature, but due to their strong hydrophilic nature, they are poorly compatible with synthetic polymers. Thereby limiting its use.
After the etherification reaction, the difluoroethoxy group is grafted onto the cellulose, which improves the hydrophobic properties of the cellulose, has a milder glass transition temperature, higher thermal stability, and better compatibility with the synthesized polymer. Fluoroalkoxy mixed-substituted polyphosphazenes have excellent oil resistance, acid resistance, low-temperature elasticity and thermal stability, and can be used to prepare O-rings, lip seals, polar fuel hoses, gaskets, shock absorbing equipment and coated fabrics, etc.: Grafting polyphosphazenes with difluoroethoxy groups, and preparing the resulting polymer into a film.
Performance testing showed that the difluoroethoxy-grafted film was more stable and had a higher dielectric constant than the pure polyphosphazene film. The monomer difluoroethyl methacrylate was prepared through the esterification reaction of difluoroethanol and methacrylic acid. By polymerizing the monomers, the resulting polymer can be used as a binder for optical polymers, and its adhesive properties are greatly improved compared with non-difluoroethoxylate polymers.
other applications
Difluoroethanol can also be used to prepare cleaning agents. For example, difluoroethanol and vinylidene fluoride are added to prepare 1,1-difluoroethyl-2,2-difluoroethyl ether. This compound has good thermal stability and can be used to clean SUS316 stainless steel plates.

difluoroethanol by is a refrigerant/chemical product. It is widely used in refrigeration equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, water dispensers, automotive air conditioners, central air conditioning, dehumidifiers, cold storage and commercial refrigeration, as well as in aerosol propellants, blowing agents, fire-extinguishing and cleaning applications. See the product page for details.
difluoroethanol by is used as a common working fluid in refrigeration, air-conditioning and industrial applications. When replacing or retrofitting a system, qualified personnel should perform the work, paying attention to system compatibility and lubricant matching, and following relevant safety standards.
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse away from fire, heat sources and direct sunlight. Cylinders should be placed upright and protected from falling. Transport according to regulations for high-pressure gases or hazardous chemicals, with careful handling to avoid damage to cylinders and valves.
Ensure adequate ventilation at the workplace. Avoid direct skin contact with liquid refrigerant (risk of frostbite). Keep away from open flames and high heat. Use dedicated tools and protective equipment. In case of leakage, evacuate, ventilate and contact professionals.
The exact Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and Global Warming Potential (GWP) are listed in the Physical Properties table on the product page. Select refrigerants considering energy efficiency, safety and environmental impact.
Multiple package sizes are available (e.g., cylinders, drum or ton packages - see product page). Bulk orders are supported. Contact sales for the latest quote and lead time.
